Vision Zero 2.0

The LPOA recently sent the following letter to the City of Toronto’s Infrastructure and Environment Committee regarding Vision Zero 2.0:

LPOA Letter re IE6.8- Vision Zero 2.0- Road Safety Report

Text of letter reads:

25 June 2019

Re.: Agenda item IE6.8 Vision Zero 2.0 Road Safety Plan Update

Dear Chair Pasternak and Committee Members:

I write on behalf of the Leaside Property Owners’ Association, Inc. (LPOA) in support of the Vision Zero 2.0 Road Safety Plan Update (IE6.8 on your June 27, 2019 Committee agenda).

The speed of traffic flowing along Leaside’s internal residential streets has been a major concern for many years. In December 2018, after much public consultation, the LPOA presented a comprehensive and well-received traffic calming plan for Leaside, a key element of which is speed reduction. Increasing safety by reducing flow-through speed is its key theme

As well, an independent local initiative to gather residents’ signatures in support of implementing a Leaside-wide 30kph speed limit has collected over 1500 positive responses within a very short period.  Clearly, traffic safety is a major issue for us.

We are delighted to read the recommendations in the Vision Zero 2.0 report.  We urge your Committee to endorse its content and its philosophy of danger reduction through speed reduction, and accident prevention.

Thank you for your consideration of this important report.

Sincerely,

Carol Burtin Fripp
